Charles Tort - Chateauneuf-du-Pape 100% Grenache .75cl 2020 (Red)
The popes who, when installed in Avignon in the fourteenth century, revealed the terroir of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Under the reign of John XXII, the village becomes the summer residence of the papacy. As for the precious nectar produced in this area, he granted the wine to the rank of "Vin du Pape", opening the doors of the great European courts.
Grapes: Parcel selection: 100% Grenache Old Vines, confidential production
Terroir: Clay-limestone plot covered at 100% with rounded pebbles and exposed south of the appellation.
Production: Between 900 and 1200 per year depending on the vintage production.
Vinification: Manual harvest with first sorting on the vines and second sorting at the entrance of the cellar. Traditional vinification under control temperature in concrete vats. 100% destemmed and crushed harvest. Skin fermentation for 30 days under thermoregulation followed by malolactic fermentation. Aging for 9 to 12 months in half nuid (500L barrel typical of the Rhone Valley) aged 3 to 5 years. Minimum aging of 6 months in bottle before sales.
Tasting: Dark garnet colour with bluish reflections. The nose is powerful, with aromas of jammy red and black fruits (strawberry, cherry, fig, blackcurrant, blackberry, plum) with a hint of vanilla spice and chocolate. The mouth is greedy, intense, rich and generous. The black fruits are developing with elegance and finesse to finish on a very beautiful silky and generous length. A Grand Châteauneuf du Pape where we find the pure soul of the King grape variety of the Rhone Valley, THE GRENACHE.
Wine and food pairing: It perfectly matches with beef, lamb, veal, game, poultry, fine fish in sauce, marinated dishes as well as mature cheeses.
When to Drink: Best served between 18° and 20°C. Always great to drink but can be aged for up to 15 years.
