Cigars, Wines, Spirits and Our thoughts

Enjoying Premier Cru Wines, Spirits and our Cigar Selection

At Premier Cru we have a selection of fine cigars. Our selection has been designed around the vast experience of Christophe. Preparing the cigar, smoking and pairing with your favorite drink, is a matter of personal preference. Here’s a some of our personal thoughts on the subject.

Before we get into it, here are some things to keep in mind. Firstly is, as I thought at the beginning, you do not need to pair a cigar with a sprit. There are so many other options.

Mild Cigars: Chardonnay, sparking wine, gin, tea, light coffee.

Medium Cigars: Dark rum, blended whiskeys, lager, armagnac, reposado Tequilla and mojito & daiquiri cocktails.

Full Bodied Cigars: Single malt scotch, vodka, cognac, stout, expresso and black tea.

Arturo Fuente - Hemingway Short Story - and - Flamboyant Oak Aged Matured Rum.

A fantastic pairing, I really enjoy, a Hemmingway cigar and a glass of Flamboyant Rum. A medium strength cigar from The Dominican Republic and a natural Rum from Mauritius aged in Oak. Myself personally, ‘I prefer a straight cut for this cigar, I find a v-cut or punch cut a bit too much for smaller cigars. With the rum, this one I prefer by itself for the first one and a bit of ice once the cigar is going. But that’s my opinion, enjoy’. JD.

The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story is a premium cigar that is part of the Hemingway line produced by the renowned Arturo Fuente Cigar Company. The Hemingway line is named in honour of the famous American author Ernest Hemingway, who was known to be a passionate cigar enthusiast.

The Hemingway Short Story is a small-sized figurado cigar, which means it has a tapered shape with a closed, pointed head. It measures 4 inches in length with a ring gauge of 49, making it a relatively short and stout cigar. The unique shape of the Short Story allows for a concentrated and intense smoking experience.

The cigar is handcrafted in the Dominican Republic, where the Arturo Fuente factory is located. The Fuente family has been producing cigars for several generations and is highly regarded for their expertise and quality craftsmanship.

The Hemingway Short Story features a smooth and oily Cameroon wrapper, which is known for its rich flavour and delicate sweetness. Underneath the wrapper, the cigar is filled with a blend of Dominican tobaccos that have been aged to perfection. The combination of the wrapper and filler tobaccos creates a medium-bodied smoke with complex Flavors.

When smoking the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story, you can expect notes of cedar, leather, earth, and a subtle spice. The Flavors are well balanced and refined, providing an enjoyable and satisfying smoking experience.

Due to its small size, the Short Story is ideal for those occasions when you want a shorter smoking time or when you're looking for a quick burst of flavour. It typically takes around 30 to 45 minutes to smoke, although this can vary depending on your smoking pace.

The Hemingway Short Story has gained a loyal following among cigar enthusiasts who appreciate its quality construction, excellent flavour profile, and the rich heritage associated with the Arturo Fuente brand. It is considered one of the standout offerings in the Hemingway line and is highly regarded within the cigar community.

Flamboyant Matured Rhum

Following a year in rich volcanic soil, burnt by the sun and cooled by the rain, the sugar cain ripens in the fields, its secrets locked inside. It is only after careful fermentation and distillation of the sugar cain and the subsequent aging of the rum in oak barrels do these hidden promises become a reality. Flamboyant rum has naturally matured in oak casks for up to seven years, in the complete absence of colouring agents, to produce this golden blend that should be experienced neat.

Flamboyant Oak Aged Rum is made using traditional techniques and carefully selected ingredients. The rum is distilled from molasses, a byproduct of sugarcane processing, and it undergoes a meticulous aging process to develop its unique flavour profile.

The oak barrels contribute characteristics such as vanilla, caramel, spice, and sometimes hints of toasted oak or smokiness to the final product.

The rum is often described as having a smooth and complex taste. It may exhibit flavors of tropical fruits, toffee, chocolate, and spices, with a lingering warmth and depth on the palate. The exact flavor profile can vary depending on the specific aging process and the individual batch of rum.

Flamboyant Oak Aged Rum can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, allowing the flavors to be savored and appreciated. It is also a versatile spirit that can be used as a base for cocktails, adding a rich and distinctive element to mixed drinks.
